Finding the silver lining

When this client received a call on vacation that a pipe had burst on the second floor, ruining two lower floors of her home, understandably, there was no thought of a silver lining in that cloud. But what happened after the fans and drying equipment were removed was indeed a great opportunity. The room in its original state was a “library” housing books, old photo albums, and a bar. The homeowner never had a space set aside for a home office before. So, in addition to replacing wall support structure and hardwood flooring throughout the first floor due to water damage – the seldom used library was remodeled into a home office for more regular use. The cherry wood floor to ceiling built-ins and cabinetry remained true to the original intent of the early 1900’s home and library plan, but a niche was carved out with carefully planned file drawers, a printer cabinet, proper office lighting, and a new custom built-in bar cabinet for entertaining after 5 o’clock.
